Make contact with the group (see contacts). You can opt to be put on the emailing list so that you will be notified when there are events or supporters meetings. You will not receive many emails (maximum of about one per month).
Meetings are held every few months for general supporters. At these meetings, progress and possible future actions are discussed. Councillors or council officers are sometimes invited to speak at meetings.
The group has an online petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/DVGreenway/. Please sign this and also ask your friends and local school/community group/sports club etc. to sign it. The petition can be used to demonstrate the support for the route when negotiating with councillors, our local MP and Town, District and County Councils.
The councils make decisions about projects and these decisions are based on what they think that the community wants. Therefore if you can write to your councillor and tell them that you would like to see more provision for cycling and walking in the area.

School travel plans are produced by schools to improve safety and reduce car use. These plans should be based on consultation with teachers, parents, pupils, governors and other local people.
Ask at your local school if the provision of a cycleway has been included within their plan, if appropriate. This will open up avenues for funding within in the Safe Routes to School programme.
Tell family and friends and local community groups. Help to distribute leaflets about the group at local event and help to publicise supporter meetings.
Money is the main thing which is preventing the route from going ahead (see funding page). Contact local businesses or ask the company which you work for. Any significant donations to support the provision of the cycleway would encourage the County Council to start on the route. Donations should be sent to the Derwent Valley Trust (see funding).
If you have any ideas about how the group could further its aims, please contact us with your suggestions.
