Funding

Without funding, the route cannot be created. Early estimates for the Matlock to Bakewell section of the route were around £500,000. More recently, a cost of £185,000 for the section from Matlock to Darley Dale was estimated.

Funding could come from a number of potential sources:

  1. Derbyshire County Council – they will provide some funds, provided money also comes from elsewhere
  2. Government Safe Routes to Schools fund, which is administered by Sustrans. This can be used to fund up to 50% if it can be shown that the route would be used for access to schools
  3. Sustrans. This route is not part of the Connect2 lottery bid, which Sustrans recently won, but they may be able to provide some funding
  4. Landfill Tax and Aggregates Levy
  5. Private funding from local businesses
